Nius-editors are here to the rescue! We’ve searched along the Danshui-Xinyi Line (MRT Red Line) for wonderful little stores and great photos spots. That way, you can spend as little as possible and still get to post fun stuff on your Instagram and share these envious half-day trips!

Xiangshan Station, “Elephant Mountain”

If you’ve got all the energy in the world, go for a hike on Xiangshan! You’ll get a great, panoramic view of Taipei’s urban landscape! Not only will your girlfriends envy you, they’ll be impressed with all that energy you have~ (Just thinking about hiking makes me tired XD)

Taipei Main Station, “MaySpace”

All the creative handmade products in the store revolves around the concept of “travel” (DJ, hit the music!) The store owner used her crafty hands and transformed Taipei City’s Futai Street Mansion and North Gate into super cute postcards and luggage stickers! Not only are they great souvenirs for tourists, even Taipei locals like me can’t resist collecting all the designs! (lol)

Zhongshan Station, “Illumination Books/Cafe”

On Chifeng Street, which used to be known as “the Blacksmith Street,” in an old Japanese-Western style house, there is a charming bookstore that brings together modern coffee and old books. You can come here to flip through the pages of time, feel every second’s emotion, and see what ripples back to you.

Zhishan Station, “Swallow Second Hand Furniture”

When it comes to furniture, you can think of Nordic simplicity, American industrial, or Japanese zen-like styles; but did you know that Taiwan has its own style in furniture, too? The most important quality for Taiwanese-style furniture is the aesthetic of moderation. With skilled craftsmanship and techniques such as lathe turning and bevelling, material is never wasted as beautiful and practical furniture are being made.

New Beitou Station, “Taipei City Library Beitou Branch”

As the first green architecture library, the Beitou Librarits right iny is surrounded by green trees and shrubs. Sitting along the windowsill in the summer, taking in the cool breeze and slivers of blue sky, smothered in greenery, you get to enjoy some time with nature which is a pretty rare treat in the city. (Don’t forget to keep it down and not disturb others who are studying here~ shhh…)
